The Blue Familiar was formed in 1976 as a music band composed of visually handicapped people. The purpose of the formation was to repay the kindness to society, having received aid as the handicapped. Blue originates in the clear blue sky of Hokkaido. There are no borders in the sky, and we imagined a global family who loves peace across borders. Such a desire is put in the band name. 　The first charity concert was held in 1977. In addition, we held concerts at the home for the aged in Chitose City and at the reformatory, etc. It was introduced on television and newspapers, etc. as a visually handicapped people's music band, and the request to attend regional events came one after another. Moreover, various activities grew as appearances on TV. We once played with the late Mr. Kyu Sakamoto, a well-known Japanese singer, as his backing band. 　We donated books to the Chitose City library with the earnings of a charity concert. A handicapped people's group can sometimes become a group only of demand; however, instead we donated books, believing: "I want to become a person who is willing to give people instead of just receiving from others.” The book is set up in the library as "the Blue Familiar Pocket Edition," and the citizens are familiar with the donated books.
